Honor Guard

The ROTC Honor Guard unit is made up of ROTC cadets who are manly trained for funeral detail.  The Honor Guard's primary mission is the give the 21 gun salute at veterans' funerals.  The 21 gun salute consists of eight cadets, one commander and seven gunman.  The seven gunman fire of three rounds each at the command of their leader.  They also polish three cartilages for the grieving family as an honorary custom.

The Honor Guard is also responsible for training the various cadets who want more advanced training in marching and marching with a rifle.  In the movies it is the Honor Guard that people are watching when drill team are doing fancy marching.

Saber Team

The Saber Team is a new addition to the ROTC program, it is also a spin off of the Honor Guard unit.  The Saber Team is a group of people who specialize in using and marching with sabers, or swords.  Their primary mission is to create a bridge for dance royalty to walk through.  It is one of the more elegant units of the ROTC program.

The Saber Team not only has to have their sabers and movements looking perfect, they also have to have the best looking uniforms in the entire battalion!

Raiders Team

The Raiders Team, like the Saber Team, is a new addition to the ROTC program.  It was started to motivate cadets to seed excellence in physical fitness.  The Raiders Team for ROTC is the Green Berets for the Army.  The Raiders Team's primary mission is to engage in outdoor activities that require an above average amount of physical fitness.  Such activities the Raiders Team are most fond of are paint balling military style, at lest three mile hiking trips, and repelling.

Push-Up Squad

The Push-up Squad has now been added to the Raiders Team, however, they have a different mission then the rest of the Raiders Team.  The Push-Up Squad is its name, members in the Push-Up Squad do push-ups ever time the football team scores a point at home games.  They average over a 100 push-ups per game.  The requirements for joining the squad are they must be members of the Raiders Team, they must be able to do large amounts of push-ups all at once, and the have to pass the Raiders Team physical fitness test.

Colorguard

The Colorguard unit is a long lasting tradition for CCHS.  They are the ones who the students see during assemblies, sporting events, and award ceremonies.  However, the student body does not see the Colorguard during the drill season when they are competing against other schools.  For the past two years the Canon City Colorguard has been bring home more trophies then they ever have in the past.  This is a huge accomplishment for the cadets.  They are not only competing against top ranking schools they are also competing against teams that practice two to three hours a day.  The Canon City Colorguard team can only practice in the morning before school, at 6:30a.m., for 45 minutes, even then they usually only get about two to three days a week to practice.  With the large difference in practice time the Colorguard team is still doing better then ever!

Drill Team

The Canon City Drill Team is a precision drill unit who also go to drill competions like the Colorgurard.  The drill team is another long tradition for the ROTC department.  Their primary mission is to be the most elite marching unit in the ROTC department.  The Drill Team consists of  two teams the Without Arms Team and the With Arms Team.  The Without Arms Team is the team that does not march with rifles.  The With Arms Team is the team that does march with rifles, and they not only have to march with rifles they have to perform rifle movements as they march.  Both teams practice together in the mornings before school twice a week, just like the Colorguard.  The drill has also been bring home more trophies in the past two years then it has ever before.   Both the Colorguard and the Drill Team have over come huge obstacles to come out the top in their leagues.
